What is the best way to beat burnout for yourself or in your team?

It's a question I'm being asked more regularly at the moment.

The stats around the escalation of burnout are scary and showing little sign of slowing down. Having experienced burnout twice it's something very close to my heart and something I'm passionate about.
I used to respond to this question by trying to give direct and specific advice to whoever asked for it.

Over the years I've come to realise this approach isn't particularly effective or useful.

Burnout is a very complex and VERY personal issue. Every individual experiences it very differently and thus needs tailored support.

That being said the most effective way to beat burnout is to not experience it in the first place!

This may sound a little too simple and as though I'm lacking compassion, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

I deeply care about this but, as a coach and mentor, I have come to learn that asking better questions that prompt people to think more deeply about their personal energy and supporting them to build a healthier relationship to their self, leadership and performance mindsets is the most effective way to beat burnout.

Prevention is always better than cure.

Sometimes that's a lesson we learn in hindsight. Certainly was for me.

Supporting yourself and your people to prioritise personal energy and build a healthy relationship to their mindset is the most effective way to beat burnout, by making sure it never emerges.

The added benefit is by doing this you and your team members will show up as their best selves, lead their best lives and do their best work.

Literally everyone wins.

I've written a workbook "The Energetic Shift - 101 questions that every leader should ask themselves and their teams" and designed the "Tune In" program to support you and your team with this.

Remember, prevention is always better than cure.
